Prošle godine Zemlja se zagrijala za oko 0,2 °C više nego što su klimatski modeli predviđali. Iako to možda ne izgleda puno, kada uzmete u obzir da je to mjera na cijelome planetu, to je onda poprilično zagrijavanje.

"Nijedna godina nije zbunila predviđajuće sposobnosti znanstvenika za klimu više od 2023. godine", piše klimatolog iz NASA-e Gavin Schmidt u članku za Nature, a prenosi Science Alert.

"Temperaturna anomalija iz 2023. došla je iz vedra neba, otkrivajući neviđen jaz u znanju, možda prvi put od prije oko 40 godina, kada su satelitski podaci počeli nuditi pogled na Zemljin klimatski sistem u realnom vremenu", piše Schmidt upozoravajući da ako se ova neobjašnjiva anomalija ne smiri do kolovoza, u skladu s prethodnim El Nino fluktuacijama, onda ćemo biti na nepoznatom terenu, prenosi N1.

Postavljeno je nekoliko teorija za višak topline koja premašuje ono što se očekuje od El Nina i stope povećanja CO2. To uključuje smanjenje aerosola za površinsko hlađenje nakon promjena regulative 2020. godine; povećanje vodene pare koja zadržava toplinu od erupcije Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai 2022; i aktivnost u trenutnom solarnom ciklusu koja šalje više topline u našem smjeru.

Ali čak i kombinirano, sve ovo ne objašnjava uočenu dodatnu toplinu, tvrdi Schmidt.

Iznenađenje i za znanstvenike

Zabrinjavajuće je da nam nedostaje kritičan faktor u našem razumijevanju klimatskih sistema na Zemlji.

"To bi moglo implicirati da planet koji se zagrijava već mijenja način na koji klimatski sistem funkcionira, mnogo ranije nego što su znanstvenici očekivali", objašnjava Schmidt.

Ipak, iznenadni skok vrućine i dalje može biti kratkoročna anomalija ili slabost u podacima, priznaje Schmidt.

Ovo je samo početak. Neka mjesta već osjećaju zagrijavanje više od drugih.

Iako je važno razraditi ove potencijalno velike neizvjesnosti u modeliranju klime, veći prioritet je ostvarivanje značajnog napretka ka zaustavljanju emisija stakleničkih plinova koji pokreću najveći dio globalnog zagrijavanja, prenosi N1.

Prošle godine Zemlja se zagrijala za oko 0,2 °C više nego što su klimatski modeli predviđali. Iako to možda ne izgleda puno, kada uzmete u obzir da je to mjera na cijelome planetu, to je onda poprilično zagrijavanje.

To uključuje smanjenje aerosola za površinsko hlađenje nakon promjena regulative 2020. godine; povećanje vodene pare koja zadržava toplinu od erupcije Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha‘apai 2022; i aktivnost u trenutnom solarnom ciklusu koja šalje više topline u našem smjeru.

Ali čak i kombinirano, sve ovo ne objašnjava uočenu dodatnu toplinu, tvrdi Schmidt.

Iznenađenje i za znanstvenike

Zabrinjavajuće je da nam nedostaje kritičan faktor u našem razumijevanju klimatskih sistema na Zemlji.

Tri četvrtine najvećeg sistema koraljnih grebena na svijetu, Velikog koraljnog grebena u Australiji, trenutno pati od visokog do ekstremnog nivoa ugroženosti. Životinje masovno umiru, a milijuni ljudi u Africi gladuju zbog klimatskih promjena, prenosi Nova.rs.
