"2econd Life – Sketches for a new reality" nije neki friško ispisani grafit ili tema predavanja o "novom normalnom", kako bi se na prvi pogled moglo učiniti, nego naslov starijeg ciklusa meksičkog umjetnika i splitskog zeta Erica del Castilla, koji ga ove srijede u 20 sati postavlja i u Galeriji "Studio 21".
Staro ili novo normalno zapravo nije ni toliko bitan temporalno-prostorni okvir za Del Castilla, budući da se on, kako je to jednom zabilježio Božo Kesić, od početka svoje karijere bavi prikazivanjem osobne predodžbe ljudske naravi, nečega što bi se moglo nazvati "ljudskim stanjem".
Izložbom "Drugi život/skice za novu realnost" Eric del Castillo zapravo predstavlja manji dio svojeg opusa koji je nastajao u posljednjih tridesetak godina: od "Razglednica iz prošlosti", koje skuplja od 80-ih godina, preko ready-made objekata i skulptura, digitalnih kolaža u kojima autor izmješta poznate prikaze žena dodajući im maske i tetovaže (npr. Ingresova "Kupačica") pa do video-kolaža "Stilitas" ili "The World Without Us", koji čine montirane fotografije javnih prostora različitih gradova svijeta za vrijeme "lockdowna".
Del Castillov očuđujući kolaž spretno tumači rezidencijalni kustos "Studija 21" Toni Horvatić kad kaže kako po značenju u Ericovim radovima postoji određeni (smisaoni) odnos (među)zavisnosti, "ali on nije formalno izražen pa sadržaji ostaju autonomni za različita sagledavanja i tumačenja.
A trenutno mi je najbliže ono koje jasno govori da smo poput likova iz rada 'Stilitas', koji su sigurni u ovoj oluji, ali ograničeni da žive na kapitelima urušenih stupova zapadne klasične kulture u petlji vječne sadašnjosti i neizvjesne budućnosti."
Kolaž, aproprijacija i remiks
Inače, Eric del Castillo rođen je 1962. u Mexico Cityju, gdje je i studirao filmsku produkciju i slikarstvo te profesionalno usavršio vještine umjetničkog direktora i produkcijskog dizajnera za film i televiziju. Pune 24 godine radio je za meksičke produkcijske tvrtke, privatne i javne televizijske postaje te iza sebe ima, kako sam kaže, 61.319 sati televizijskog prijenosa.
Uza sve te sate televizije, 1986. započinje umjetničku karijeru koristeći kolaž, aproprijaciju i remiks. Kolaž se provlači kroz njegov rad ne samo kao najznačajnija umjetnička tehnika, nego i kao način razmišljanja i djelovanja uopće. Godine 1995. primio je potporu meksičkog Nacionalnog fonda za umjetnost i kulturu (FONCA), kao i onu Nacionalne fondacije za umjetnost u Sjedinjenim Državama.
Osim toga, boravio je kao rezidencijalni umjetnik u Headlands Center for the Arts u San Franciscu 1996., a od 1987. godine izlagao je na 16 samostalnih izložbi te na više od 100 grupnih izložbi u Meksiku, Hrvatskoj, SAD-u, Njemačkoj, Španjolskoj i Kanadi. Danas kao vizualni umjetnik živi i radi u Splitu.
Izložba u "Studiju 21" otvorena je u organizaciji Udruge za kulturu "Beat", a može je se pogledati do 15. prosinca.

"2econd Life – Sketches for a new reality" nije neki friško ispisani grafit ili tema predavanja o "novom normalnom", kako bi se na prvi pogled moglo učiniti, nego naslov starijeg ciklusa meksičkog umjetnika i splitskog zeta Erica del Castilla, koji ga ove srijede u 20 sati postavlja i u Galeriji "Studio 21".
Staro ili novo normalno zapravo nije ni toliko bitan temporalno-prostorni okvir za Del Castilla, budući da se on, kako je to jednom zabilježio Božo Kesić, od početka svoje karijere bavi prikazivanjem osobne predodžbe ljudske naravi, nečega što bi se moglo nazvati "ljudskim stanjem".
Izložbom "Drugi život/skice za novu realnost" Eric del Castillo zapravo predstavlja manji dio svojeg opusa koji je nastajao u posljednjih tridesetak godina: od "Razglednica iz prošlosti", koje skuplja od 80-ih godina, preko ready-made objekata i skulptura, digitalnih kolaža u kojima autor izmješta poznate prikaze žena dodajući im maske i tetovaže (npr. Ingresova "Kupačica") pa do video-kolaža "Stilitas" ili "The World Without Us", koji čine montirane fotografije javnih prostora različitih gradova svijeta za vrijeme "lockdowna".
Del Castillov očuđujući kolaž spretno tumači rezidencijalni kustos "Studija 21" Toni Horvatić kad kaže kako po značenju u Ericovim radovima postoji određeni (smisaoni) odnos (među)zavisnosti, "ali on nije formalno izražen pa sadržaji ostaju autonomni za različita sagledavanja i tumačenja.
A trenutno mi je najbliže ono koje jasno govori da smo poput likova iz rada 'Stilitas', koji su sigurni u ovoj oluji, ali ograničeni da žive na kapitelima urušenih stupova zapadne klasične kulture u petlji vječne sadašnjosti i neizvjesne budućnosti."
Kolaž, aproprijacija i remiks
Inače, Eric del Castillo rođen je 1962. u Mexico Cityju, gdje je i studirao filmsku produkciju i slikarstvo te profesionalno usavršio vještine umjetničkog direktora i produkcijskog dizajnera za film i televiziju. Pune 24 godine radio je za meksičke produkcijske tvrtke, privatne i javne televizijske postaje te iza sebe ima, kako sam kaže, 61.319 sati televizijskog prijenosa.
Uza sve te sate televizije, 1986. započinje umjetničku karijeru koristeći kolaž, aproprijaciju i remiks. Kolaž se provlači kroz njegov rad ne samo kao najznačajnija umjetnička tehnika, nego i kao način razmišljanja i djelovanja uopće. Godine 1995. primio je potporu meksičkog Nacionalnog fonda za umjetnost i kulturu (FONCA), kao i onu Nacionalne fondacije za umjetnost u Sjedinjenim Državama.
Osim toga, boravio je kao rezidencijalni umjetnik u Headlands Center for the Arts u San Franciscu 1996., a od 1987. godine izlagao je na 16 samostalnih izložbi te na više od 100 grupnih izložbi u Meksiku, Hrvatskoj, SAD-u, Njemačkoj, Španjolskoj i Kanadi. Danas kao vizualni umjetnik živi i radi u Splitu.
Izložba u "Studiju 21" otvorena je u organizaciji Udruge za kulturu "Beat", a može je se pogledati do 15. prosinca.
