Među mnogim tradicionalnim blagdanskim dekoracijama zanimljivu priču krije pomander, naranča nabockana klinčićima, jedan od simbola obilja i blagostanja, jer to južno voće nekoć je mnogima bilo luksuz, baš kao i egzotični začini poput klinčića. Sam naziv pomander potječe od francuskog izraza pomme d'ambre, odnosno jabuka od ambre, koji se u početku koristio za kugle načinjene od mirisnih supstanci među kojima je bila i ambra (ambergris), zaslužna za naziv koji koristimo i danas.

Zabilježen je recept za izradu pomme d'ambre koji uključuje sastojke poput benzoinske smole i kalamita samljevene u prah, otopljene u ružinoj vodi i skuhane, potom uvaljane u oblik jabuke i premazane mješavinom začina poput cimeta i klinčića te na koncu uvaljane u smjesu usitnjene ambre i mošusa. Svoju je verziju recepta, koja uz spomenuto sadrži ružine latice i prah cvijeta ljubičice, zabilježio čak i famozni Michel de Nostredame, uz napomenu da je riječ o naputku za proizvodnju "aromatične kugla najvrhunskijeg parfema i najdugotrajnijeg".
Drugi oblik pomandera bio je onaj od filigranski izrađenog srebra ili zlata ili pak od fino rezbarenog drva ili perforiranog porculana u kojima su se nosili ambra i mošus, dok su nešto skromnije verzije krile mješavinu klinčića, cimeta i svilenih vrpci natopljenih eteričnim uljima. Ova druga vrsta pomandera se tijekom srednjeg vijeka pa sve do 17. stoljeća nosila poput privjeska, obješena na lančić ili pojas, dok su manji modeli krasili prstenje ili su se koristili kao gumbi. Bili su izrazito popularni, ne samo kao dekorativno sredstvo za poboljšanje općeg olfaktivnog stanja, nego i kao navodna zaštita od kuge i drugih boleština.

Negdje u 17. stoljeću naziv se počeo koristiti i za jednostavniju verziju mirisnih kugli, izrađenih od naranči nabockanih začinima poput klinčića. Takvi su pomanderi služili kao mirisni ukrasi, a koristili su se i kao praktičan način za osvježavanje mirisa posteljine i rublja, jer se jednom dobro osušen pomander od naranče može čuvati godinama. Bogato nabockane naranče stoga su bile i više nego dobrodošao božićni ili novogodišnji poklon, što je u 18. stoljeću postao vrlo popularan običaj.
A kako sami možete napraviti pomander? Poprilično jednostavno, samo uz malo strpljenja i preciznosti. Uz naranče i klinčiće, zatrebat će vam malo kuhinjskog papira i oštar nož ili pak čvrst drveni štapić. Nožem ili štapićem izbockajte koru naranče, ako ste spretni potrudite se slijediti određeni prikladan dizajn, poput zvjezdica, pahuljica i spirala. Pustite naranče da odstoje na kuhinjskom papiru kako bi, ako ste bockali preduboko, iscurio sok, a zatim ih posložite na pladanj ili u zdjelu i dodajte im poneki listić naranče i zimzelenu grančicu, štapić cimeta, zvjezdasti anis, svijeću, mašnicu... Među mnogim tradicionalnim blagdanskim dekoracijama zanimljivu priču krije pomander, naranča nabockana klinčićima, jedan od simbola obilja i blagostanja, jer to južno voće nekoć je mnogima bilo luksuz, baš kao i egzotični začini poput klinčića. Sam naziv pomander potječe od francuskog izraza pomme d'ambre, odnosno jabuka od ambre, koji se u početku koristio za kugle načinjene od mirisnih supstanci među kojima je bila i ambra (ambergris), zaslužna za naziv koji koristimo i danas.

Zabilježen je recept za izradu pomme d'ambre koji uključuje sastojke poput benzoinske smole i kalamita samljevene u prah, otopljene u ružinoj vodi i skuhane, potom uvaljane u oblik jabuke i premazane mješavinom začina poput cimeta i klinčića te na koncu uvaljane u smjesu usitnjene ambre i mošusa. Svoju je verziju recepta, koja uz spomenuto sadrži ružine latice i prah cvijeta ljubičice, zabilježio čak i famozni Michel de Nostredame, uz napomenu da je riječ o naputku za proizvodnju "aromatične kugla najvrhunskijeg parfema i najdugotrajnijeg".
Drugi oblik pomandera bio je onaj od filigranski izrađenog srebra ili zlata ili pak od fino rezbarenog drva ili perforiranog porculana u kojima su se nosili ambra i mošus, dok su nešto skromnije verzije krile mješavinu klinčića, cimeta i svilenih vrpci natopljenih eteričnim uljima. Ova druga vrsta pomandera se tijekom srednjeg vijeka pa sve do 17. stoljeća nosila poput privjeska, obješena na lančić ili pojas, dok su manji modeli krasili prstenje ili su se koristili kao gumbi. Bili su izrazito popularni, ne samo kao dekorativno sredstvo za poboljšanje općeg olfaktivnog stanja, nego i kao navodna zaštita od kuge i drugih boleština.

Negdje u 17. stoljeću naziv se počeo koristiti i za jednostavniju verziju mirisnih kugli, izrađenih od naranči nabockanih začinima poput klinčića. Takvi su pomanderi služili kao mirisni ukrasi, a koristili su se i kao praktičan način za osvježavanje mirisa posteljine i rublja, jer se jednom dobro osušen pomander od naranče može čuvati godinama. Bogato nabockane naranče stoga su bile i više nego dobrodošao božićni ili novogodišnji poklon, što je u 18. stoljeću postao vrlo popularan običaj.
A kako sami možete napraviti pomander? Poprilično jednostavno, samo uz malo strpljenja i preciznosti. Uz naranče i klinčiće, zatrebat će vam malo kuhinjskog papira i oštar nož ili pak čvrst drveni štapić. Nožem ili štapićem izbockajte koru naranče, ako ste spretni potrudite se slijediti određeni prikladan dizajn, poput zvjezdica, pahuljica i spirala. Pustite naranče da odstoje na kuhinjskom papiru kako bi, ako ste bockali preduboko, iscurio sok, a zatim ih posložite na pladanj ili u zdjelu i dodajte im poneki listić naranče i zimzelenu grančicu, štapić cimeta, zvjezdasti anis, svijeću, mašnicu... Možete ih, također, objesiti na božićno drvce ili njima ukrasiti adventski vijenac. Prepustite mašti na volju, a evo vam i nekoliko ideja.
