Nedugo nakon što je "The Godfather" Francisa Forda Coppole obilježio veliki jubilej i proslavio 50. godišnjicu, studio Paramount Pictures pustio je na streaming tržište desetodijelnu seriju "The Offer" ("Ponuda") o nastanku filma koji je producirao davne 1972. godine. Prve tri epizode serije imale su premijeru koncem travnja, da bi serija u jednotjednom ritmu emitiranja stigla do posljednje, desete tek prošlog tjedna.

Povezaniji od Boga

"The Offer" je ponuda koja se (ne) može odbiti, rječnikom "Kuma", jednog od najboljih filmova u povijesti kinematografije. Zašto ovo "ne" u zagradama? Zato što se serija kreatora Michaela Tolkina i Leslieja Greifa istovremeno može i ne mora preporučiti s obzirom na podjednak omjer pluseva i minusa.

Opet, ni najveći plusevi ne dosežu pluseve Coppolina remek-djela da bi "The Offer" mogao ravnopravno stajati u približno istoj ravni s filmom "The Godfather", iako je Paramount+ zamislio seriju kao svoj odgovor na "prestige" TV projekte konkurentskih streaming servisa kakvi se, sa ili (češće) bez pokrića, vole uspoređivati s dometima "novog Hollywooda" sedamdesetih.

No, plusevi postoje i serija ih osvaja na račun većine glumaca u izvedbama slavnih lica s početka sedamdesetih. Miles Teller ("Ritam ludila", "Top Gun 2") uvjerljiv je kao glavni lik, producent Albert S. Ruddy, prema čijem je iskustvu sa snimanja "Kuma" serija i nastala. Dobar je i Matthew Goode kao čuveni producent Robert Evans koji je "povezaniji od Boga" i omogućio je studiju Paramount kinohitove poput "Ljubavne priče" i "Kineske četvrti".

U ulozi redatelja Coppole prilično je zanesen komičar Dan Fogler (serijal "Čudesne zvijeri"), jednako kao i Patrick Gallo kao Mario Puzo, poznati pisac i koscenarist filma. Pogođeni su Anthony Ippolito i Justin Chambers kao Al Pacino i Marlon Brando. Burn Gorman se potvrđuje kao upečatljiva faca u ulozi glavešine studija Charlesa Bludhorna, a tu je i Juno Temple koja glumi Ruddyjevu kreativnu tajnicu Bettye McCartt.

Pa ipak, casting je i pogrešan na primjeru Franka Johna Hughesa i naročito Giovannija Ribisija u ulogama Franka Sinatre i italoameričkog mafijaškog "bossa" Joea Colomba. Ribisi pokušava biti Robert De Niro u "Nedodirljivima", gdje je glumio Ala Caponea, toliko da čak spominje i razbijanje nečije glave bejzbolskom palicom.

Jednako tako serija pokušava oponašati "Kuma", ali i ostale mafijaške filmove, najviše one Martina Scorsesea poput "Dobrih momaka" i "Casina", kad se italoamerička mafija počne uplitati u snimanje Coppolina klasika o italoameričkoj mafiji, makar "riječ" mafija nije u njemu nijednom izgovorena. Tako je pokušavao funkcionirati i nedavni film "Svi sveci mafije", prednastavak "Sopranosa" od kojeg je serija, doduše za malu ulogu, preuzela Gandolfinijeva sina Michaela.

Rođenje dona Corleonea

To je legitimno, pa i kreativno poželjno, dakle da se snimanje mafijaškog filma "metafilmski" prelama s mafijaškim biznisom ili obratno. No, "The Offer" u tom segmentu pati zbog Ribisijeve neuvjerljive izvedbe, a i važan mafijaški podzaplet ​se​ na momente čini da je uveden više iz poslovnih nego kreativnih pobuda – kako bi produžio trajanje serije na još koji tjedan emitiranja za skupljanje pretplatnika.

Serija traje predugih deset sati i povremeno testira strpljenje, iako se uglavnom gleda lako i sa zanimanjem, ali svakako joj ne ide u prilog to što se unutar njezina trajanja može smjestiti cijela Coppolina filmska trilogija, od "Kuma" do podcijenjenog "Kuma III".

Prolongirano trajanje znade rezultirati gubitkom dramske i ine napetosti u pojedinim situacijama, kao i potenciranjem repetitivnosti, tipa da Ruddy svako malo mora riješiti neki problem na snimanju ili izvan njega, što s vremenom postaje sve manje interesantno.

Neke scene filma lijepo su rekreirane u (pret)produkcijskoj fazi "Godfathera", primjerice rođenje dona Corleonea kad Brando postavi maramice u usta kako bi dobio izgled buldoga ili budućeg mafijaša Michaela nakon ubojstva Sollozza i McCluskeyja. Lijepo je i da serija ispisuje ljubavno pismo Hollywoodu i filmašima koji muku muče da snime dobar film, a u čije umove zaviruje.

Napokon, lijepo je (premda i pomalo licemjerno) da serija slavi "magiju" velikog ekrana i kolektivnoga gledateljskog iskustva i što "ne možeš doživjeti kući" dok u "dnevnom boravku zuriš u kutiju", od gledanja "Planeta majmuna" do "Kuma" u kinu. Međutim, dosta toga djeluje kao nasumično "marvelovsko" povlađivanje fanovima legendarnog filma ("fan service") i uopće kinematografskih sedamdesetih, od posjeta Robertu Redfordu (Billy Magnussen) na setu "Butcha Cassidyja i Sundance Kida" do npr. pojave Burta Reynoldsa (Brandon Sklenar), koliko god da to ima i edukativnu notu.

U konačnici, "The Offer" i "The Godfather" se razlikuju u egzekuciji. Osim što je film, kako autori s pravom vole reći, grčka tragedija o talijanskoj obitelji i univerzalna priča o mafijašima-imigrantima, ljudima koji su "poput nas" ("jedu, piju, plaču, brinu se za djecu..."), drama o mafijaškom biznisu je i "metafora za kapitalizam", ali je mafijaški biznis oslikan na umjetnički način.

S druge strane, serija više razmišlja o biznisu i brendingu Copplina filma nego filmskoj umjetnosti, dok Ruddy i Evans s "Kumom" streme postizanju "iskustva, ne transakcije". "The Godfather" je postigao iskustvo, a "The Offer" je više "transakcija".

Nedugo nakon što je "The Godfather" Francisa Forda Coppole obilježio veliki jubilej i proslavio 50. godišnjicu, studio Paramount Pictures pustio je na streaming tržište desetodijelnu seriju "The Offer" ("Ponuda") o nastanku filma koji je producirao davne 1972. godine. Prve tri epizode serije imale su premijeru koncem travnja, da bi serija u jednotjednom ritmu emitiranja stigla do posljednje, desete tek prošlog tjedna.

Povezaniji od Boga

"The Offer" je ponuda koja se (ne) može odbiti, rječnikom "Kuma", jednog od najboljih filmova u povijesti kinematografije. Zašto ovo "ne" u zagradama? Zato što se serija kreatora Michaela Tolkina i Leslieja Greifa istovremeno može i ne mora preporučiti s obzirom na podjednak omjer pluseva i minusa.

Opet, ni najveći plusevi ne dosežu pluseve Coppolina remek-djela da bi "The Offer" mogao ravnopravno stajati u približno istoj ravni s filmom "The Godfather", iako je Paramount+ zamislio seriju kao svoj odgovor na "prestige" TV projekte konkurentskih streaming servisa kakvi se, sa ili (češće) bez pokrića, vole uspoređivati s dometima "novog Hollywooda" sedamdesetih.

No, plusevi postoje i serija ih osvaja na račun većine glumaca u izvedbama slavnih lica s početka sedamdesetih. Miles Teller ("Ritam ludila", "Top Gun 2") uvjerljiv je kao glavni lik, producent Albert S. Ruddy, prema čijem je iskustvu sa snimanja "Kuma" serija i nastala. Dobar je i Matthew Goode kao čuveni producent Robert Evans koji je "povezaniji od Boga" i omogućio je studiju Paramount kinohitove poput "Ljubavne priče" i "Kineske četvrti".

U ulozi redatelja Coppole prilično je zanesen komičar Dan Fogler (serijal "Čudesne zvijeri"), jednako kao i Patrick Gallo kao Mario Puzo, poznati pisac i koscenarist filma. Pogođeni su Anthony Ippolito i Justin Chambers kao Al Pacino i Marlon Brando. Burn Gorman se potvrđuje kao upečatljiva faca u ulozi glavešine studija Charlesa Bludhorna, a tu je i Juno Temple koja glumi Ruddyjevu kreativnu tajnicu Bettye McCartt.

Pa ipak, casting je i pogrešan na primjeru Franka Johna Hughesa i naročito Giovannija Ribisija u ulogama Franka Sinatre i italoameričkog mafijaškog "bossa" Joea Colomba. Ribisi pokušava biti Robert De Niro u "Nedodirljivima", gdje je glumio Ala Caponea, toliko da čak spominje i razbijanje nečije glave bejzbolskom palicom.

Jednako tako serija pokušava oponašati "Kuma", ali i ostale mafijaške filmove, najviše one Martina Scorsesea poput "Dobrih momaka" i "Casina", kad se italoamerička mafija počne uplitati u snimanje Coppolina klasika o italoameričkoj mafiji, makar "riječ" mafija nije u njemu nijednom izgovorena. Tako je pokušavao funkcionirati i nedavni film "Svi sveci mafije", prednastavak "Sopranosa" od kojeg je serija, doduše za malu ulogu, preuzela Gandolfinijeva sina Michaela.

Rođenje dona Corleonea

To je legitimno, pa i kreativno poželjno, dakle da se snimanje mafijaškog filma "metafilmski" prelama s mafijaškim biznisom ili obratno. No, "The Offer" u tom segmentu pati zbog Ribisijeve neuvjerljive izvedbe, a i važan mafijaški podzaplet ​se​ na momente čini da je uveden više iz poslovnih nego kreativnih pobuda – kako bi produžio trajanje serije na još koji tjedan emitiranja za skupljanje pretplatnika.

Serija traje predugih deset sati i povremeno testira strpljenje, iako se uglavnom gleda lako i sa zanimanjem, ali svakako joj ne ide u prilog to što se unutar njezina trajanja može smjestiti cijela Coppolina filmska trilogija, od "Kuma" do podcijenjenog "Kuma III".

Prolongirano trajanje znade rezultirati gubitkom dramske i ine napetosti u pojedinim situacijama, kao i potenciranjem repetitivnosti, tipa da Ruddy svako malo mora riješiti neki problem na snimanju ili izvan njega, što s vremenom postaje sve manje interesantno.

Neke scene filma lijepo su rekreirane u (pret)produkcijskoj fazi "Godfathera", primjerice rođenje dona Corleonea kad Brando postavi maramice u usta kako bi dobio izgled buldoga ili budućeg mafijaša Michaela nakon ubojstva Sollozza i McCluskeyja. Lijepo je i da serija ispisuje ljubavno pismo Hollywoodu i filmašima koji muku muče da snime dobar film, a u čije umove zaviruje.

Napokon, lijepo je (premda i pomalo licemjerno) da serija slavi "magiju" velikog ekrana i kolektivnoga gledateljskog iskustva i što "ne možeš doživjeti kući" dok u "dnevnom boravku zuriš u kutiju", od gledanja "Planeta majmuna" do "Kuma" u kinu. Međutim, dosta toga djeluje kao nasumično "marvelovsko" povlađivanje fanovima legendarnog filma ("fan service") i uopće kinematografskih sedamdesetih, od posjeta Robertu Redfordu (Billy Magnussen) na setu "Butcha Cassidyja i Sundance Kida" do npr. pojave Burta Reynoldsa (Brandon Sklenar), koliko god da to ima i edukativnu notu.

U konačnici, "The Offer" i "The Godfather" se razlikuju u egzekuciji. Osim što je film, kako autori s pravom vole reći, grčka tragedija o talijanskoj obitelji i univerzalna priča o mafijašima-imigrantima, ljudima koji su "poput nas" ("jedu, piju, plaču, brinu se za djecu..."), drama o mafijaškom biznisu je i "metafora za kapitalizam", ali je mafijaški biznis oslikan na umjetnički način.

S druge strane, serija više razmišlja o biznisu i brendingu Copplina filma nego filmskoj umjetnosti, dok Ruddy i Evans s "Kumom" streme postizanju "iskustva, ne transakcije". "The Godfather" je postigao iskustvo, a "The Offer" je više "transakcija".

Povezaniji od Boga

"The Offer" je ponuda koja se (ne) može odbiti, rječnikom "Kuma", jednog od najboljih filmova u povijesti kinematografije. Zašto ovo "ne" u zagradama?
