Eksplozivan, uznemirujuć i brutalan distopijski je prikaz rascijepljenih Sjedinjenih Američkih Država u filmu ‘Građanski rat‘ (Civil war) britanskog redatelja Alexa Garlanda(Ex Machina, Uništenje). Pozicioniran u blisku budućnost, govori o krvavom raspadu zemlje koja sebe voli nazivati kolijevkom demokracije – scenarij je to možda nezamisliv prije desetak godina, no danas mnogo bliži realnosti, uzmemo li u obzir ne tako davni juriš trumpista na Kongres ili aktualnu težnju savezne države Teksas za odcjepljenjem od matice. Na krilima sveopće paranoje izrasta i ovaj ratni kolaž koji rasap Amerike prati kroz putešestvije predstavnika medija, troje veterana i mlade fotoreporterke na opasnom putu prema opkoljenoj prijestolnici.

Garlandovo ambiciozno zamišljeno djelo vješto transponira poruku o pogubi bratoubilačkog rata. Odasvud vrebaju snajperi i zasjede, tlo je posuto masovnim grobnicama i izbjegličkim kampovima, no u sveopćem kaosu često je teško razlikovati zavađene strane. Osim proslova u kojem se spominju secesionističke države okupljene u tzv. Western Forces i njima suprotstavljeni Predsjednik, u nastavku nigdje nećete naći dubljeg objašnjenja o političkom trenutku ili motivaciji suprotstavljenih snaga kojoj pripadaju još i Florida Alliance i New People‘s Army, ma što oni predstavljali.

Umjesto obrazlaganja konteksta, težište radnje prebačeno je ovdje na glavne aktere, embedded journalists na radnom zadatku usred nesmiljenog oružanog sukoba. Iako početak sugerira da se ratuje u bliskoj budućnosti, na terenu nema sofisticiranih naprava za uništavanje žive sile. Prevladavaju gerilski obračuni i pješadijski juriši s nešto konvencionalne zračne potpore kojima izbliza svjedoče karakterno i izričajno okljaštene novinarske snage.

Prirođenim talentom Kirsten Dunst kao deziluzionirana fotoreporterka Lee Smith izbjegava zamku jednoobraznosti u kojoj se koprca njezin kolega novinar Joel (Wagner Moura) čiji finalni potez vrijeđa etiku sedme sile diljem globusa. Cailee Spaeny trudi se svojoj junakinji Jessie, fotoreporterki početnici nadahnutoj opusom starije kolegice Smith udahnuti živost, pa tako nasred bojnog polja, onako po starinski, izrađuje fotografije koristeći razvijač.

Stephenu McKinleyu Hendersonu dopala je nezahvalna uloga Sammya, uglednog novinara veterana koji prilično banalno ispada iz sedla prije završnice filma. Kvartet glavnih protagonista zasjenjuje epizoda Jessea Plemonsa čiji bezimeni militantni ultranacionalist izaziva više zebnje nego cijela regimenta separatista i lojalista zajedno.

‘Građanski rat‘ veliki je portret mizantropije kojemu nedostaje poanta. Dojam je da je redatelju ovdje bilo važnije pokazati koliko je čovjek čovjeku vuk, negoli razložiti okolnosti zbog kojih pojedinac i kolektiv poživinče. U tome je ključni deficit ove besciljne epopeje koja rogobatno oslikava stanje svijesti raspadajuće nacije. Što mu je prethodilo, zašto su se odcijepili baš Kalifornija i Teksas, hoće li svekolika pomutnja rezultirati diktaturom, nećete doznati. Valjda se iz prikazane anarhije i na temelju medijske slike turbulencija onkraj Atlantika očekuje da gledatelj sam izvlači zaključke.

Eksplozivan, uznemirujuć i brutalan distopijski je prikaz rascijepljenih Sjedinjenih Američkih Država u filmu ‘Građanski rat‘ (Civil war) britanskog redatelja Alexa Garlanda(Ex Machina, Uništenje). Pozicioniran u blisku budućnost, govori o krvavom raspadu zemlje koja sebe voli nazivati kolijevkom demokracije – scenarij je to možda nezamisliv prije desetak godina, no danas mnogo bliži realnosti, uzmemo li u obzir ne tako davni juriš trumpista na Kongres ili aktualnu težnju savezne države Teksas za odcjepljenjem od matice. Na krilima sveopće paranoje izrasta i ovaj ratni kolaž koji rasap Amerike prati kroz putešestvije predstavnika medija, troje veterana i mlade fotoreporterke na opasnom putu prema opkoljenoj prijestolnici.

Garlandovo ambiciozno zamišljeno djelo vješto transponira poruku o pogubi bratoubilačkog rata. Odasvud vrebaju snajperi i zasjede, tlo je posuto masovnim grobnicama i izbjegličkim kampovima, no u sveopćem kaosu često je teško razlikovati zavađene strane. Osim proslova u kojem se spominju secesionističke države okupljene u tzv. Western Forces i njima suprotstavljeni Predsjednik, u nastavku nigdje nećete naći dubljeg objašnjenja o političkom trenutku ili motivaciji suprotstavljenih snaga kojoj pripadaju još i Florida Alliance i New People‘s Army, ma što oni predstavljali.

Umjesto obrazlaganja konteksta, težište radnje prebačeno je ovdje na glavne aktere, embedded journalists na radnom zadatku usred nesmiljenog oružanog sukoba. Iako početak sugerira da se ratuje u bliskoj budućnosti, na terenu nema sofisticiranih naprava za uništavanje žive sile. Prevladavaju gerilski obračuni i pješadijski juriši s nešto konvencionalne zračne potpore kojima izbliza svjedoče karakterno i izričajno okljaštene novinarske snage.

Prirođenim talentom Kirsten Dunst kao deziluzionirana fotoreporterka Lee Smith izbjegava zamku jednoobraznosti u kojoj se koprca njezin kolega novinar Joel (Wagner Moura) čiji finalni potez vrijeđa etiku sedme sile diljem globusa. Cailee Spaeny trudi se svojoj junakinji Jessie, fotoreporterki početnici nadahnutoj opusom starije kolegice Smith udahnuti živost, pa tako nasred bojnog polja, onako po starinski, izrađuje fotografije koristeći razvijač.

Stephenu McKinleyu Hendersonu dopala je nezahvalna uloga Sammya, uglednog novinara veterana koji prilično banalno ispada iz sedla prije završnice filma. Kvartet glavnih protagonista zasjenjuje epizoda Jessea Plemonsa čiji bezimeni militantni ultranacionalist izaziva više zebnje nego cijela regimenta separatista i lojalista zajedno.

‘Građanski rat‘ veliki je portret mizantropije kojemu nedostaje poanta. Dojam je da je redatelju ovdje bilo važnije pokazati koliko je čovjek čovjeku vuk, negoli razložiti okolnosti zbog kojih pojedinac i kolektiv poživinče. U tome je ključni deficit ove besciljne epopeje koja rogobatno oslikava stanje svijesti raspadajuće nacije. Što mu je prethodilo, zašto su se odcijepili baš Kalifornija i Teksas, hoće li svekolika pomutnja rezultirati diktaturom, nećete doznati. Valjda se iz prikazane anarhije i na temelju medijske slike turbulencija onkraj Atlantika očekuje da gledatelj sam izvlači zaključke.
